Since Greyhounds are bred for racing, most are wholesale slaughtered:
most pups are killed shortly after birth if they don't look like they'll
be fast; most young ones are killed if they don't succeed at the track;
the rest are killed at retirement -
5 years or less.
There are more greyhound rescues than for any other breed.
Slowly the percentage of kills has gone down from 90 to about 30.
Still a long way to go.
As for being house pets - they are couch potatoes!
